Villa Almada is a modern two-bedroom villa in the garden of Canto de Luz, our Boutique Maison on Rua do Almada. It feels like a house in the countryside, yet you are in the middle of Porto’s historic centre, a short walk from the Clérigos Tower, Rua das Flores and the Ribeira.
The whole villa is yours for the stay: two floors, two ensuite bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen and living room, a private garden with a dining terrace and gas BBQ, and a saltwater swimming pool with a wooden sundeck at the back of the garden. Because it sits in the hotel grounds, you also get our homemade breakfast and daily housekeeping, which most villa rentals in Porto cannot offer.
Everything you need for a stay in a private villa in Porto is already in place, from the bean-to-cup coffee machine to the Xbox and games for rainy evenings. Use the floorplan to see how the two floors fit together, then book directly for the best rate.
The pool is the reason most guests choose Villa Almada. It sits at the back of the villa’s private garden, framed by a wall sculpture and water spouts, with a wooden sun terrace beside it. It is 5 x 5 metres, and the water is cleaned by salt electrolysis rather than chlorine.
For cooler days you can ask for the pool to be heated to between 28 and 30°C for a daily fee. Heating is booked for the whole stay with 24 to 36 hours’ notice, and we send you a link a few days before arrival so you can check the forecast first. The Maison’s own heated pool is open too, so our Porto hotel with pool gives villa guests two pools to choose from.
Both bedrooms have a 180cm SuperKing bed on Hypnos mattresses that can be split into two singles, so the villa works as well for two couples or friends as it does for a family. Egyptian cotton linen, full blackout blinds and double-glazed “Silence” windows make for a quiet night in the centre of the city.
Each bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom with a walk-in rain shower, heated towel rail and Rituals toiletries. There is an Amazon Echo in both bedrooms, a 50-inch Smart TV with Netflix in the main bedroom, international plugs with USB charging and plenty of hanging space.
The ground floor is one large open-plan space with sliding glass doors to the garden. The kitchen is fully equipped with a Siemens induction hob and dishwasher, convection oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and a bean-to-cup coffee machine, and there is a washer/dryer for longer stays. Air conditioning runs throughout, including the kitchen, which is rare in Porto.
The dining table seats six, and the lounge sofa converts into a double and a single bed, or three singles, which is how the villa sleeps up to seven. For evenings in, there is a 50-inch Smart TV with Netflix, an Xbox with games and two controllers, board games and even a popcorn machine. If you would rather cook with an expert, Canto Cooking, our culinary school, runs classes a few steps away.
Outside the kitchen doors is a dining terrace with a table for the whole group and a built-in gas BBQ, so long summer dinners happen at home. Beyond it, the private garden leads to the pool and sundeck, all of it closed off from the rest of the hotel.
In the morning, homemade breakfast can be brought to the villa, or you can walk across to the Orangerie and garden terrace of the Maison. It is a lovely setting for celebrations too, and the villa is a favourite for Christmas in Porto with family.
Villa Almada sleeps up to seven guests, including up to four adults, and two infants can stay in the travel cots, which are free. High chairs, children’s plates and cutlery, toys, kids’ Netflix channels and board games are all ready before you arrive, and blackout blinds in every bedroom help with naps.
With the pool in a private walled garden, parents can relax while children swim under supervision. For days out, our guide to family-friendly places in Porto has ideas for every age, and our family stays in Porto page covers the other options at Canto de Luz.
